Top 6 Reasons for Failure in Online Education

School closures caused by the pandemic have brought a challenge in the dispensation of education.Students from the developed countries were lucky to resume their studies online, while some were not lucky enough. However, does this mean that virtual learning is the better option? According to the results of research undertaken, there has been an increase in academic failure during covid-19.

This fact has prompted me to write this article. I shall keep the focus on why some people fail in their online education.

1.  Distractions

We’ve all watched those funny clips of interrupted-meetings and classes. It is all fun and games until we realize that this is one of the root causes of academic failure.

Schools give the perfect environment to study from. Homes on the other hand are associated with fun activities, games, and everything else except a learning environment.

Distractions limit our ability to focus and concentrate in class. If you cannot concentrate on class, it automatically means you have higher chances of failing.

2.  Poor course choice

If there is one thing that has always been a problem in the education system is poor course choice.

This challenge has been there even in the conventional dispensation of learning and has recently spiked up when virtual learning was introduced.

Let’s face it, making the right decision of what course or career path to take can be hard, especially now when we lack that physical interaction with a career advisor.

Schools have in the past held meetings between students and professionals to help them make better course choices.

Now that we’ve resorted to online learning, we have to make the decision all by ourselves.

We turn to internet sources that are, in most cases, unreliable and false. Students end up making the wrong course and school choice resulting in academic failure and frustrations.

If you find yourself in that situation, I suggest that you first do a good analysis.

Start by reading reviews available on third-party review websites like us-reviews.com. For instance, if you are in doubt if taking a trade-related course is the right option for you, look up trade school courses online reviews.

You will get decent feedback on what school is best at offering that course. That will certainly prevent future failure and frustrations.

3.  Laziness

Let’s say it. Some students are just lazy!

I mean, getting to wake up at whatever time you feel like, joining a class from the comfort of your bed, having the option to disable your video and audio.

All these largely contribute to laziness. As you know, sloth contributes to poor performance on tests and exams and ultimately leads to failure.

4.  Family problems

You can imagine how tough it must be for a child living with abusive parents and siblings, who would rather have their studies from school because then it would mean she’s away from home.

This is not something new. Ever since we got stuck at home, there has been an increase in domestic violence.

Schools are a safe place for children to grow surrounded by a loving community of inspiring teachers and friends.

It is a very crucial developmental stage for a child. One gets to know and make friends with peers. However, virtual learning has restricted this interaction.

This might not be the main cause of failure but is by far a contributing factor to the academic failure of students.

5.  Too demanding/Adjustment issues

We must admit that Coronavirus hit us by surprise. Nobody expected that within 2 months we would be out of school, all public gatherings canceled, and parents being forced to work from home.

Changing the learning environment for students posed a challenge. Students were faced with adjustment issues due to the transitioning from one form of learning to another.

Some schools skipped exams, while some began their classes far off the scheduled time causing the course content to be taught in a rush.

6.  Limited resources

Having to do classes without textbooks, printouts, illustrative diagrams and charts can be a bit challenging.

It forces teachers to only concentrate on speaking which might be boring to students. With virtual learning, students rely on online libraries to at least try to increase study resources.

The material in these libraries is limited and few, and in most cases requires subscription fees this has hindered extensive research.

The unavailability of enough resources to cater for proper learning is a great impediment to learning and can contribute to the drastic failure of students.
