Hillcrest High School will remain on a lockout for the remainder of the day, after a loaded weapon was found on Hillcrest school grounds, according to Simpsonville police.The weapon was found Wednesday morning, according to Simpsonville Police Capt. Cheryl Manley.In a release, police said school resource officers at Hillcrest High were notified around 9:15 a.m. that a student on campus had alcohol.Police said after the student was confronted about the alcohol they had, the student left his backpack and took off running. Tim Waller, with Greenville County Schools, said the school resource officer and administrator took possession of the student’s backpack, and found a loaded handgun inside.Hillcrest High School and Bryson Middle School were placed on lockdown during the investigation.Hillcrest will remain on lockout for the remainder of the day, while Bryson Middle School is operating under normal conditions.
