Haryana: Pact inked, over 5k ITI students to get skill development training | Gurgaon News

GURUGRAM: Emphasising on helping students of industrial training institutes (ITIs) to get good jobs when they complete their course, Haryana skill development and industrial training department has signed a series of dual system of training (DST) MoUs under which over 5,500 students would receive industry-oriented skill development training in around 60 government ITIs.
As per the agreement, around 287 trade units in 41 different trades, along with 160 eminent industries, will collaborate with the 60 government ITIs to provide training to students so that they could meet the skilled workforce requirements of the industry. The department has argued that the move is in line with its efforts to reduce the disconnect between the trainee’s learning outcomes and the requirements of the industries.
Giving information regarding the same, additional chief secretary of the department Devender Singh said over 5,500 students of ITIs would benefit under this DST scheme.
“It was a long-pending demand of the industry associations as they had pointed out that ITI passouts don’t have adequate knowledge about the latest machinery and are not conversant with the work environment in the industry,” Singh said.
Explaining about DST scheme, Singh said, “The DST is an amalgamation of theoretical training through ITIs and practical through the industry. The students will get on-the-job training for 6 to 12 months. With this, the prospects of trainees getting jobs will improve manifold.” This is a step up from the government, especially at a time when the state is reeling with the worst unemployment rate.
Last year, the state had introduced the DST in 27 ITIs, wherein 71 trade units had been started to enable industry linkages and to provide hands-on experience to students on the latest machinery and technologies. Around 1,300 students enrolled under the scheme during the 2019-20 session and 422 students were given the training, of whom 230 have received pre-placement offers.
“Government ITI Faridabad has entered into a pact with India Yamaha Motors to train the students of Machinist trade; JBM Auto Ltd. for Tool and Die Maker and Welder trade; Escorts Ltd. for Mechanic Diesel Engine trade. Similarly, GITI Gurugram has signed an agreement with Munjal Showa Ltd. for Turner and Welder trade; Rico Auto Industries for Fitter; Rico Aluminium and Ferrous Auto Ltd. for machinist trade. Government ITI Panchkula has inked a pact Hotel Pallavi for the Food Production and Catering & Hospitality Assistant trade,” said Singh adding that the department is planning to introduce at least 500 DST trade units in the state by next year.
