Govt to focus on skilling in areas like telemedicine: Skill Development minister RK Singh

The government will need to focus on skilling, reskilling and upskilling in all sectors including the health sector where courses are developed in areas like telemedicine, sanitization, minister of state for skill development RK Singh said as the skill development ministry prepares to resume physical skills training from September 21.

According to the minister’s statement, the skills development ministry through its online portal BharatSkills has conducted an online training programme during lockdown benefitting 9,38,851 trainees.

Further, another 1, 31,241 trainees have availed online training facilities through BharatSkill Mobile App. Similarly, National Instructional Media Institute (NIMI), an autonomous body under the ministry, has conducted 3080 online classes benefitting 16,55,953 trainees.

Besides, the industrial partners of the directorate general of training (DGT) under the ministry have conducted online training having 1,84,296 participants. In addition to the above, 16,767 exclusive online classes for 35 CTS trades and 34 craft instructors training schemes (CITS) running across 33 national skill training institutes have been conducted.

The minister, in a separate reply, said skills ministry has imparted training to 75.68 lakh as on March 17, 2020 under short term training (STT) courses. Out of these certified candidates, 17.54 lakh candidates have been provided with placement.

Also, 49.12 lakh candidates who already have the informal skills but are not formally certified have been oriented under recognition of prior learning (RPL) component of the scheme, the minister said.

Further, the government has asked training providers and training centres to organize rozgar melas with the support of sector skill councils to help skilled persons get jobs. Further, additional incentives are being given to training providers for placing candidates above the minimum required level while allocation of fresh targets is based on their placement performance.
