Googlebox stars’ secrets from unseen family to their actual jobs

Gogglebox returned to our screens on Friday night, with the star’s giving their hilarious opinions on this week’s top TV.

The show has always been popular but this year has drawn in millions of viewers as people turned to the programme to bring some light relief to lockdown.

Some people taking part in the show have been catapulted to stardom, such as Scarlett Moffatt and couple Steph and Dom Parker.

While we get invited into their living rooms each week, not much is known about what goes on in their lives once the cameras stop rolling – reports Mirror Online.

Most of the stars have very normal jobs, as they are only paid with a small allowance and takeaways while filming.

But there are a few surprises, and lots of unseen family members that have never appeared on-screen.

With Gogglebox coming back to our screens for a brand new 16th series, here is a look at what the stars get up to when they are not on camera.

Jenny and Lee

Jenny Newby and Lee Riley have been firm favourites on the show since they started in 2014.

Some have mistaken them for mother and son or even partners in the past, but they are actually best friends.

They became pals 21 years ago when she was a landlady at a pub in Paull, East Yorkshire, and Lee was a regular.

Jenny is married to husband Ray, who has never appeared on the show, while Lee has been with partner Steve Mail for 26 years.

The best friends, who film from inside Jenny’s caravan in Hull, share a Twitter account which has nearly 140,000 Twitter followers.

During lockdown Jenny and Lee moved in together and decided to spend lockdown as “friends with no benefits”.

After spending the summer together, Lee jetted out to Cyprus to spend time with boyfriend Steve.

Last week, Lee bid an emotional farewell to Steve as he was forced to leave to return to the UK to resume filming for Gogglebox.

The Malones

It’s not all about the humans on Gogglebox, as viewers tune in just to see the Malone family’s dogs.

As well as the Rottweilers, they are also well-known for having a delicious array of snacks on the table while they tuck into some TV.

Mum Julie has worked as a receptionist, while dad Tom Senior, who loves to make incredible facial expressions, is a lorry driver.

The couple appear with two of their children, Tom Junior and Shaun, who have some pretty exciting lives outside of the show.

Tom Jnr is a freelance model and streetdance choreographer who has performed with a load of big name artists including members of the Black Eyed Peas.

While Shaun, who used to be a stage actor in Billy Elliot, now coaches Manchester United’s Under-16s Ability Counts football team.

Back in July, Shaun became a first time dad as he announced the birth of son Louis with his girlfriend.

The Malones also have two other kids, Vanessa and Lee, who have never appeared on camera.

The Malone family have been working hard during lockdown and wowed fans with their recent weight loss by sharing their latest TikTok dance.

Tom Jnr and his parents looked worlds away from the telly trio who first joined the hit Channel 4 reality show back in 2014 as they broke out into a hilarious dance routine to classic Nightcrawlers track ‘Push The Feeling On’.

Sophie and Pete

Siblings Pete and Sophie, from Blackpool, have become one of the stand out pairs since starting on the show in 2017.

The brother and sister duo are known for their cutting remarks and regularly mocking TV stars.

They are very close and have a very similar sense of humour, which helps as they still live together.

Away from the cameras, Sophie is a shop window dresser, while Pete works in insurance.

They aren’t the only members of the family as they have a brother called Harry and sister Lucy, who have not appeared on the show.

Sophie has given herself a glam makeover during lockdown, first going blonde then changing to jet black a few weeks later.

Fans also went wild when they discovered that the pair are related to the Chuckle Brothers, as they are the great niece and nephew of Paul and the late Barry Chuckle.

Ellie and Izzi

Sisters Ellie and Izzi Warner have been gracing our screens since joining Gogglebox in 2015.

The Leeds residents, who don’t live together, have brought laughs and controversy to the show over the years.

Older sister Ellie has spoken about being a hairdresser and lives at their family home.

While nail technician Izzi lives with boyfriend Grant and is mum to five-year-old son Bobby and Bessie Rose, who was born in February this year.

In a major change last month, Izzi was briefly replaced for an episode by Ellie’s boyfriend after the country went into lockdown, but she was back the following week.

Despite Channel 4 reassuring viewers that everyone on the show adhered to social distancing guidelines, the pair received a backlash for being sat in the same room.

Ahead of the new series, Ellie has showcased a dramatic new look to fans.

Ellie has transformed her blonde locks into a daring two-toned style, featuring dark lilac on one side and a striking neon pink on the other.

She isn’t the only Warner sister who has shown off a glam makeover recently, as her sister got in on the action during lockdown.

Izzi told fans that she “felt like Beyonce ” after she shared a slimmed down picture of herself looking more glamorous than ever.

Linda and Pete

Linda and Pete McGarry have had a rocky experience on Gogglebox.

They first shot to fame in series 2 and quickly became firm favourites with viewers when they appeared alongside son George Gilbey.

However, they were booted off the show in 2014 when George defied the rules about going on other TV shows and went into the Celebrity Big Brother house.

The husband and wife, who live in Clacton, did return in 2016 without their son, who now has a child with girlfriend Emma.

Pete works as an electrician and Linda is a carer – with the pair having fostered over 60 children together over the years.

In October last year, George was jailed for three months after being found guilty of drink-driving.

As one of the original Gogglebox families, the Siqqiquis were pioneers for the series when it started.

The Derby-based family is made up of dad Side and brothers Baasit and Umar, but they have previously been joined by other brother Raza.

Retired engineer Sid, who moved from Pakistan aged 16, has been married for 37 years and also has two daughters.

Sid previously revealed that he would be missing from the sofa because of the coronavirus outbreak.

He tweeted: “I am sorry I will be missing from the Siddiqui sofa again in tonight’s #Gogglebox because of two metre social distancing rule but I am sure you will be entertained just as much by the rest of the gang enjoy the show take care be safe lots of love”

The Michaels

Another of the original families, the Michaels have been a staple on Gogglebox apart from a one series absence in 2015.

This was due to dad Andrew running as a UKIP MP, but he failed to win the Hastings and Rye seat and the family were reinstated.

Andrew is always joined by wife Carolyne, with both of them now retired, and most often by son Louis.

Daughter Alex used to be a regular, while her lookalike sister Catheryne has also appeared and confused viewers due to their similarities.

Other brother Pascal has not joined the family on the sofa yet.

One of the few remaining original Gogglebox stars, Stephen Webb has been on the show with many different people over the last seven years.

He started filming with then boyfriend Chris in the very first series, but the pair have since split.

They remained friends and did carry on together on the show until Chris decided to step down.

He was replaced by Stephen’s hilarious mum Pat, who took part in a few series.

Since 2019, Stephen has been joined on the sofa by his husband Daniel.

Outside of the show, Stephen is a hairdresser in Brighton.

Dave and Shirley

Welsh couple Dave and Shirley, who have been married for 40 years, have been bringing smiles to our faces since 2015.

Keen baker Dave is a cleaner in a factory while Shirley works in retail in Caerphilly, not too far from Cardiff.

As well as kids Gemma and Simon, the pair have a two-year-old bulldog called Blue.

They have become known for their soft Welsh tones and light-hearted bickering.

The Plummers

2017 saw the arrival of the Plummer boys onto Gogglebox from their home in Bristol.

The hilarious boys have a love for football which is an important part of their lives outside of the show.

Tristan is a winger for Hereford FC, while Twaine plays for Bradford Town as well as presenting a breakfast radio show.

Tremaine, who has an adorable pug, has taken a different path and is a chef.

Mary and Marina

Mary, 90 and Marina, 88, met while living together at the St Monica Trust retirement village in Bristol nine years ago.

The pensioners have been making viewers giggle with their hilarious comments and wine drinking since 2016.

The retirement home stopped residents leaving during the pandemic as elderly people are most at risk from the illness.

This means the pair did not appeared on the show for the final few weeks of the last series – leading viewers to worry they may have been axed.

Their naughty sense of humour was missed by fans of the show, but they returned for the current series, delighting fans.

The Vens

Mum Mica, boyfriend Marcus and her two daughters Sachelle and Shuggy have been making us laughing since joining in 2018.

The south Londoners all have outgoing personalities and are not afraid to say what they are thinking.

Outside of the show, Mica is a hairdresser specialising in natural hair and proudly shows off her work on Instagram.

While Marcus specialises in boxing and is reported to have a boxing gym.

The Worthingtons

The Worthingtons have been on our screens since 2017 and come from Manchester.

Alison and husband George are by their daughter Helena, who gave birth to baby boy Erwin in 2019 and brought him onto the show.

Abbie and Georgia

Friends Abbie and Georgia have been filming from Durham since starting two years ago.

They went viral in a hilarious moment while watching the 2018 John Lewis Christmas advert.

They had no idea that Your Song was originally sung by world famous popstar Elton John.

Watching the advert, Georgia said: “I know this is Ellie Goulding who sang this but God knows whose it was first.”

Amira and Iqra

Amira and Iqra joined Gogglebox in 2010 with their friend Amani when they were just schoolgirls.

Now as a duo, the pair regularly have viewers in stitches with their infectious laughter.

Sue and Steve

Sue and Steve have been bringing the laughs since back in 2019 when they made their first appearance.

The husband and wife duo, who live in South London, love having a glass of wine and cracking jokes.

Steve is a cab driver in London, while Sue is semi-retired.

Anne and Ken

Anne and Ken are the newest family on the show and first appeared at the start of series 15 earlier this year.

The pair reside in County Durham, where famous Gogglebox alumni the Moffatts live.

The couple have been married for 50 years and Ken gave his wife 50 rose to symbolise their love on the show.

Paige and Sally

Mother and daughter duo Paige and Sally are relative newcomers having joined the series in 2019.

The pair have become known for some hilarious blunders, including once thinking Nice was in Italy, not France.

Mum Sally works as a carer for the disabled and elderly in Birmingham, while Paige has a job as a business development manager.
