MD Life Sciences Bio Innovation Conference Attracts International Interest and Networking Through Virtual Trade Delegations

Maryland Life Sciences (MDLS), a division of Maryland Tech Council (MTC), will hold its highly-anticipated Bio Innovation Conference on October 5-6, 2020. Each year, the conference is held in the life science hot bed, Montgomery County, but due to COVID, conference organizers will hold the conference virtually this year.

The event will be attended by more than 500 researchers, business leaders, academia, venture capitalists, promising startups and professionals in the life sciences industry. Attendees will experience live-streaming sessions with more than 40 industry experts on relevant and up-to-date topics. The keynote speaker will be The Honorable Jim Greenwood, Former President & CEO, Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO). MDLS will present him with a Lifetime Achievement Award before he gives his keynote address.

Leaked Chinese database show company’s interest in Australia’s space and science sector

Australia’s fledgling space sector is proving to be a hot target for Chinese snooping, with Beijing tracking the movement of top-secret equipment from a tracking station outside Canberra to NASA in the United States.

And Commonwealth scientists with world-leading expertise have also been targeted by a Chinese company with links to the People’s Liberation Army.

A leaked database developed by Shenzhen-based data company Zhenhua Data, obtained by the ABC as part of an international consortium of media outlets, has more than 70 records that reference CSIRO’s staff and classified operations.

One entry shows Zhenhua Data monitored the March 2019 transfer of “scientific equipment” from Canberra’s Deep Space Communication Complex at Tidbinbilla all the way across the Pacific Ocean to NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.

It records the name of the German-flagged container ship that took the cargo, as well as the Los Angeles-based customs company that took possession

“Sellers are getting multiple offers within two weeks of listing dates. The historically lowest interest rates, sometimes below 3%, are driving buyers to commit to 30-year fixed rates,” he said.

Other aspects of the pandemic

Moody also cites the low interest rates, but added that some workers actually got an economic boom during the pandemic.

“The essential workers are working extra, and the workers who got temporarily laid off got an economic boost from the government,” she said.

That can be tricky, though. She said that workers need to be back at work for a couple of paychecks before being approved for a home loan.

One of her clients had to postpone his new home search because he took a free pass on a house payment, which disqualified him.
