Amazon plans to add 3,000 more jobs in Arizona expansion

Amazon.com, which already employs more than 17,500 people in Arizona, plans to add another 3,000 permanent jobs in the state as it gears up for what could be a robust holiday shopping season.

Amazon, which entered Arizona in 2007 with its first 300 employees, expects to open 11 new buildings in the state in 2020, said Lisa Guinn, a company spokeswoman.

Amazon has operations in Phoenix, the West Valley, East Valley, Tucson and elsewhere. That includes a massive fulfillment and shipping center in west Phoenix with a footprint of 1.2 million square feet or roughly 28 football fields, she said.

ELECTION 2020: North Dakota voters to decide on expansion of state’s higher education board

The constitutional amendment would increase membership on the State Board of Higher Education from eight to 15 voting members and also increase term length from four years to six years. Additionally the measure would prohibit state employees, officials, legislators, from being members.

The board oversees North Dakota’s 11 public colleges and universities.

Board members are appointed to the position by the governor. They currently can serve up to two, four-year terms. The board also includes a faculty and staff representative, both of whom are non-voting members, and a student representative who can serve for a year who is also appointed by the governor.

Co-op supermarket plans green expansion of its UK stores this year

  • The Co-op is opening, or extending, 65 stores in the UK as part of its move to focus on local convenience retail.

Britain’s sixth-largest grocer will create 1,000 new jobs with a plan to open, or extend 65 stores by the end of the year that will all run on 100% renewable electricity. 

As well as extending some existing branches, the Co-op said it will also overhaul more than 100 of its 2,600 stores as part of a £130 million ($172.8 million) investment plan.
