Bayer-Soda Springs employees support school backpack program

SODA SPRINGS, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK)-Bayer’s Soda Springs facility has presented the Idaho Foodbank with a $10,000 grant. The funding will support child nutrition efforts through the Backpack program, which provides weekend meals to chronically hungry students every Friday.

There are approximately 63 schools in the region that participate in the program.  According to the Foodbank, the grant will provide over 1,400 of the 17,500 backpacks that are distributed in the region.

“The Backpack program gives food insecure children a shot at success by keeping their brains and bodies fueled during the weekend, so they are prepared to take on Mondays with the energy needed to learn and thrive academically,” said Karen Vauk, President and CEO of The Idaho Foodbank. “We are grateful to the Bayer Fund and Idaho’s Bayer employees for giving Eastern Idaho children this opportunity.”

Economic development group looks to help laid-off Siemens employees

Lee County economic development officials said they have help available for the 130 Siemens employees about to lose their jobs over the next 60 days.

“We will be helping them with resume building as well as career counseling to see what kind of job skills they currently have,” project coordinator Dana Millard said.

Millard said if you’re looking to upskill, they can help with that, too.

“Whether that be going through SCC or other education or going directly into another position similar to what they’re doing now,” she said.

Millard said multiple companies across the region have reached out to them to let them know there are hiring.

Tech major to hire 500 tech employees in Rhode Island by 2023

India’s second largest IT services firm Infosys on Thursday said it plans to hire 500 additional tech workers in Rhode Island, US by 2023.

These 500 new employees are part of Infosys’ broader workforce commitment and its recent announcement to hire 12,000 additional workers in the country, bringing its total commitment to 25,000 roles, Infosys said in a statement.

In 2017, Infosys had committed to hiring 10,000 American workers over two years, and has created 13,000 jobs in the US to date.

Earlier this month, the Bengaluru-based company announced plans to hire 12,000 American workers over the next two years to add to its workforce in the US.

Infosys had opened its Digital Innovation and Design Center in Providence, Rhode Island last year.
