President Trump’s ‘1776 Commission’ on Patriotic Education Is an Overdue Effort

America’s proud history is worth defending, and it is worth defending through government and politics. There are fair arguments about how best to go about that task consistently with a duly conservative skepticism about the proper powers of federal and local government, but conservatives should not shy away from conserving the core of our national history, ideals, and culture — a goal that not so long ago was neither partisan nor ideological.

The current lines of battle are joined around the teaching of the New York Times 1619 Project, Howard Zinn’s 1980 screed A People’s History of the United States, and other fact-challenged efforts to supplant the story of America, its ideals, and its exceptional history with critical-race and gender theory and leftist agitprop. It is wrong to fill the heads of children with falsehoods, or to subject them to outside-the-mainstream theories until they are old

New Hampshire commission grapples over school-funding answer

Bill Ardinger 2020

‘It is now the time to face this issue head on,’ says attorney Bill Ardinger, a member of the Commission to Study School Funding, of the ‘first and last dollar’ question.

Twenty-seven years have passed since the New Hampshire Supreme Court ruled that the state Constitution “imposes a duty on the state to provide a constitutionally adequate education to every educable child in the public schools in New Hampshire and to guarantee adequate funding.”

This week, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in the latest round of school funding litigation brought by the ConVal, Winchester, Masonic and Monadnock Regional school districts, which charge that the state has yet to fulfill its duty to fund the cost of an adequate education.

Meanwhile, the Commission to Study School Funding, which was formed to calculate the cost of an adequate education, propose a means to pay for it and devise a formula

In austere, starkly divisive remarks, President Trump on Thursday said he would create a commission to promote “patriotic education” and announced the creation of a grant to develop a “pro-American curriculum.” The move is largely political — a reaction to a growing push by some academics for schools to teach an American history that better acknowledges slavery and systemic racism.

In the speech, Trump decried what he said was a “twisted web of lies” being taught in U.S. classrooms about systemic

President Donald Trump announces commission promoting ‘patriotic education’

Sept. 17 (UPI) — President Donald Trump on Thursday announced plans for a new commission to promote “patriotic education” in U.S. schools.

Speaking at the National Archives Museum, Trump signed an executive order establishing what he called the 1776 Commission, which is aimed at encouraging educators to teach about “the miracle of American history” and make plans in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.

“The only path to national unity is through our shared identity as Americans,” Trump said during the event dubbed the White House Conference on American History. “That is why it is so urgent that we finally restore patriotic education to our schools.”

During the event, Trump also stated that the National Endowment for the Humanities has awarded a grant to support the development of a “pro-American curriculum” and that he previously signed an executive order to establish the National Garden

Trump Says He Will Create Commission to Promote ‘Patriotic’ Education | National News

President Donald Trump on Thursday announced that he would soon sign an executive order to create a “National Commission to Promote Patriotic Education” in a speech that was heavily focused on politics that seemed directed at his conservative base supporters.

He said it will be called “The 1776 Commission” and “encourage our educators to teach our children about the miracle of American history.”

Trump’s speech from the White House History Conference at the National Archives in Washington, D.C., focused on bashing “The 1619 Project,” which is a New York Times project aimed at reframing “the country’s history by placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of black Americans at the very center of our national narrative.” Earlier this month he threatened to withhold federal funding for public schools in California that incorporated the 1619 Project into the history curriculum.

The president slammed the project and likened the teaching of

State commission to delve into optimal education funding issues

On the anniversary of its first meeting last year, the Nevada Commission on School Funding will delve into the central question it was tasked with solving: How much should the state spend on each of its K-12 students, and where could that money come from?

The commission charged with studying and making recommendations on the new Nevada school funding formula approved by the Legislature in 2019, has spent its first year discussing the nuts and bolts of the new financial structure and how the mandated weights — categorical funding for certain student groups — will be determined.

Beginning Friday, the group’s next task is to define the amorphous concept of optimal funding for education outlined by Senate Bill 543, including recommendations on what the Legislature could do to get there over time, even as the state reels from the economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Is it the best

Trump Announces ‘Patriotic Education’ Commission : NPR

At the White House Conference, President Trump said history teachers’ focus on slavery has taught children to hate their country and announced a national commission to promote “patriotic” education.

DAVID GREENE, HOST:

Many educators say schools in our country need to do a better job teaching students about white supremacy and systemic racism. President Trump is arguing for the opposite. Yesterday, he again went out of his way to portray protests in American cities as more violent than they really are. This time, though, he blamed what he called left-wing indoctrination in schools and universities. Trump said he wants to create a commission to promote, quote, “patriotic education.”

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Patriotic moms and dads are going to demand that their children are no longer fed hateful lies about this country. American parents are not going to accept indoctrination in our schools.

Trump Announces Federal ‘1776 Commission’ To Promote ‘Patriotic Education’

President Trump announced a federal “1776 Commission” to promote “patriotic education” Thursday while accusing Joe Biden and The New York Times of warping history.

Trump talked up the commission during a speech he gave at the National Archives marking the anniversary of the Constitution’s signing. Trump said Democrats and the Times’ “1619 Project” are promoting an inaccurate version of U.S. history by over-emphasizing race and the legacy of slavery.

“I will soon sign an executive order establishing a national commission to promote patriotic education. It will be called the ‘1776 Commission,’” Trump said according to the New York Post.

Trump added the commission “will encourage our educators to teach your children about the miracle of American history and make plans to honor the 250th anniversary of our founding” in 2026.

Trump has had issues with the Times‘ 1619 project, a series of articles arguing that 1619, the date
