Pick up valuable hunting skills with your local library’s help

If you go down the “Hunting and Trapping Seasons” list found on that site, there is something to hunt or trap through the end of the year. And it’s time to get to your library for materials (like the ones shown below) designed to up your odds of bagging a trophy.

“Bow Hunting,” (Open Season) by Annie Wendt Hemstock

This guide to bow hunting covers a wide range of essential topics, including bow types, additional gear, and hunting safety. All is explained with clear language and illustrative photography to draw in young hunters and to instill within them respect for the sport, game, and the environment.

“Hunting: Outdoor Life,” by Joe Gaspar

A good hunter has a deep knowledge of the animals he or she is hunting, as well as a thorough understanding of the land on which those animals live. A smart hunter knows not just what gun or bow to take on a hunt, but also which clothes to wear and what gear to bring along.

This guide offers young people an introduction to the time-honored activity of hunting. Readers will learn about the development of sport hunting, hunting techniques, and the role hunters have played in the conservation movement. Other topics discussed include hunting licenses, bag limits, and hunting safety. Shotguns, hunting bows, and rifles are all discussed in detail, as is the ammunition that each uses. A valuable resource!

Library Happenings

Your library now has wireless hot spots available for check out. Wireless hotspots are portable internet access devices that allow you to connect to a WiFi network using your computer, smartphone or another device at home or while on-the-go. It supports up to 15 device connections through a built-in wi-fi app. It is compatible with most wi-fi-enabled devices, including laptops, digital cameras, game consoles and more.

Customers can check out wireless hotspots the same way they would check out a book or DVD, with a 14-day loan period and two possible auto-renewals if no one else has requested it. To request a device, place a hold on a wireless hotspot in the library’s catalog, or call the library for assistance.
