Amazon adding another 100K jobs

Millions of people have been out of work in recent months due to the pandemic. While some furloughed or out-of-work people have managed to find new jobs, the economy and restrictions due to COVID have made it tough for many, many people.

If you’re out of work and looking for new employment, you’re likely dealing with a ton of barriers. There are fewer open positions than there were prior to COVID, causing them to be extremely competitive. To make matters worse, there are plenty of work from home scams to wade through while looking through job ads.

It’s not all bad news, though. While finding work during a pandemic isn’t ideal, there is hope — especially now that Amazon is adding another 100,000 workers to its payroll. Let’s take a look at what these jobs are and how you can apply.

What jobs are open at Amazon?

Want to make at least $15 an hour and maybe even get a sign-on bonus if you’re hired? Well, we have good news for you. Amazon recently announced that it will be adding about 100,000 jobs to help meet demand for online shopping.

Wondering what positions are open? Well, this round of hiring primarily focuses on warehouse and delivery jobs across the U.S. and Canada. There are both full and part-time positions available, and the pay starts at $15 per hour. To help sweeten the deal, Amazon is also offering sign-on bonuses up to $1,000 to new hires in select cities.

This round of hiring will focus on filling jobs at 100 new Amazon sorting facilities that are set to open later this month. The bulk of these jobs are for warehouse work, but there are other open positions listed, too.

Warehouse positions at Amazon encompass everything from picking, packing and shipping customer orders to moving, sorting and handling packages between trucks. Shifts can range from 4 to 10 hours at a time, and there is a range of time slots open.

Need to work mornings? Amazon offers it at the warehouse. Want to pick up a few overnight shifts? The warehouse is your best bet.

Shopper jobs at Amazon, on the other hand, are located in Amazon-owned Whole Foods locations. As a shopper, you’ll be responsible for locating and choosing items off of shopping lists and packaging them for delivery. Like warehouse jobs, shopper jobs offer flexible schedules — mostly mornings, evenings and weekends.

If you want to snag that sign-on bonus, it looks like your best bet is to target warehouse jobs. A quick search on Amazon’s hiring website showed both seasonal and part-time open warehouse positions in Colorado offering from $250 to $1,000 bonuses, depending on the job. Part-time and seasonal warehouse positions came with bonuses in various parts of Indiana, Ohio and several other states.

The latest hiring spree is Amazon’s fourth in 2020 alone. The retail giant hired 175,000 new operations workers in March and April, and it plans to fill over 30,000 other open positions during its Career Day event this week.

How to apply

Want to take advantage of this round of hiring? It’s easy to do. You can apply completely online on Amazon’s job website. You’ll need to have your personal information on hand and be legal to work in the U.S. or Canada, depending on where you’re applying.

You won’t need a resume or previous work experience to qualify for most of the open jobs in this round, though. However, you will need to be 18 years old or older.

You may never have expected to find yourself out of work due to a pandemic but it’s 2020 and pretty much anything goes. It’s good that companies like Amazon are stepping up hiring.
